A community-based non-profit is at its best when it engages the community. Information in this area assists with increasing your organization’s visibility for services, volunteers, donors, and partners and connecting them with the mission of your organization.

Youth need support and opportunities to grow and realize their potential. This section addresses the principles, models, and strategies for communities to facilitate positive youth development.

Many of the programs that support youth development have been developed as a result of the field increasing awareness of the issue and voicing the need in a meaningful and productive way. This area provides information about current advocacy topics as well as key legislation that supports youth development.

This area addresses the nuts and bolts of managing an organization and its programs effectively and efficiently, including evaluation and grant management.

In order to provide culturally competent services, service providers need to have a clear understanding of the unique challenges, circumstances and opportunities that many youth bring with them in their life experience. This area provides information about runaway and homeless youth, children with a parent incarcerated, or those that have experienced deep trauma as well as information about specific service systems in which they may be involved.
